Distillery names can be a bit confusing: Knockdhu, Knockando - so let's call these Single Malts anCnoc which is Gaelic for 'black hill'. Fruity acidity, sour berry mash and lemon zest are first to arrive on the nose, but there is a diverse mixture of fresh, floral and malty notes lurking in the back. The taste is spirit-driven, spicy and mildly dry with tropical fruits, heather honey and brown sugar. Just shy of medium length, the finish evolves with a touch of cinnamon, oak and licorice. A good 12-year-old entry-level malt which is flawless, easy-drinking and reliable.

Nosing: Zitrus Malt
Citrus notes, nectarine and cereal

Taste: Tropical Fruit Malt Spices Sweet
Light to medium body, slow arrival. Sweet but not overly so. Tropical fruits and malt. Some light spiciness develops. Could do with a little more attack.

Finish:Pepper Spices
Medium length, some peppery burn on the tip of the tongue, spicy oak.

Comment:
This malt is what I would call a good introductory malt. It does enough that is interesting to differentiate itself from most mass produced single malts. The nose is good, but the body is a little light for me, there isn't enough upfront oomph. I reckon it could be really good at 43% but that burn on the finish might become problematic. Overall, considering the price, its definitely one to try.

Taste: Orange Spices Ginger Green Apple

Finish: Oil medium-long Oak Sweet

Comment: Very enjoyable! Would be very interested in trying some older AnCnoc!

Nosing: Peach Plum Fruit Honey Floral Herbs

Taste: Bonfire Smoke Oak Malt Spices Pepper Zitrus

Finish: Moderate

Comment: A short sweet citrus and floral burst before a prominent burnt wood smoke sets in. Soon comes a rich spicy maltiness before a softer floral note returns on the finish.
