Nosing: Peat Smoke Honey Malt Dried Fruit
Peat smoke, charcoal barbequeue, not overpoweringly smoky, well balanced. Background sweetness. Bready/biscuity cereal notes. There's some sort of dried fruitiness in there once your nose adjusts, nothing overly specific.

Taste: Peat Smoke Honey Pepper Spices
Sweet arrival, Initial peat tang which instantly mellows out into a coal/barbequeue char type flavour. Its probably about half as intense on the peat as most common Islay malts. Remains fairly sweet throughout, black pepper comes through over time., maybe a little spiciness. Has quite a viscous mouth feel.

Finish: Peat Smoke Pepper
Long, with lingering peat smoke and black pepper.

Comment:
Some really good stuff here. The whole thing is very nicely integrated for a 12 year old. There is a good deal less peat in this than you get in Islay peated malts, which results in the distillery character and cask influence showing through nicely. For the price (currently £36), its an absolute steal. It is also a malt that I'd recommend to anyone who wants to try peated whisky but isn't too sure about getting their head blown off by peat. Honestly, I'm struggling to find fault here, it really just does the job all round.

Looking back, I did taste a bottle of this last year too, not sure if it has changed much since then, but this is a lot more refined than I remember it.
Maybe it has, or maybe my tastes have just changed a bit, I certainly think I rate it higher this time though.
