With the Green label disappearing quickly and Gold Label downgraded to being marketed as a "pour from your freezer" dram, this may well be the new gem of the line-up.

Nicely balanced nose showing lots of Highland and Speyside character - peat smoke seems to be dialed back more and more with every new JW bottling. Platinum also shows the musty, wooly suggestions of old age as we know them from the Blue Label.
My favorite part, though, is the palate: big arrival, rich, oily, sweet and malty, possibly now the fullest of the JW line. It's probably a lot of oak tannin and syrup, but it works.

I was slightly offended to see the Gold Label 18 be re-branded, but the Platinum 18 is definitely a different blend. The price development must be seen as a sign of the times, I guess.
