Glenmorangie 12 Years Quinta Ruban
This single malt was ripened in port wine barrels. Spicy notes develop with some water. The finish is gentle, soft and long. The old Port Wood Finish was a favorite with connoisseurs.

With time - and some whisky-legs evaporation - makes an appearance on the nose. Which is a welcome change from the usual / empty-glass-residual scent.
Taste: (again, Port)
Finish: (more general than than the Port influence evident in the nose & taste)
Comment: The Glenmorangie's Quinta Ruban is ALL sweetness & fruit on the nose. It easily makes for a dessert in its own right.
In its finish, this whisky offers an starkly different profile. The sweetness remains present, and even lingers a bit on the back & sides of the tongue. But savory & bitter notes then appear that would be nearly impossible to guess at based upon the whisky's nose and taste.
It is easy to rate the Quinta Ruban highly on its quality alone. A festival of flavor and scent. Add to this its relatively low price, and less than top marks is not an option.
And the faint ruby tint to the whisky is quite tantalizing.
