Tasting notes of SlàinteMhath:

GlenDronach is a bit of a one-trick pony, but boy, they know how to make a great sherry whisky! Recent batches of the 'Allardice' are much older than 18 years, and the age shows. Heavy sherry notes, oranges and rich spices bewitch the nose, intermingled with hazelnuts, roasted coffee and subdued herbal freshness. The taste is intense, full-bodied and very much in line with the aroma, culminating in a substantial, lasting and chocolaty bitter finish. Not quite as complex as the fantastic 15-year-old Revival, but who am I to criticize this superb whisky!

Comment: Great whisky. It taste so delicate, so smooth. Even for people who prefer peat than sherry this is a very nice dram. So powerful in taste. Lingering aftertaste which stay with this strong tea like covering. The only minus for me is that strong aftertaste fading out quite quickly. Very smooth, easy ad pleasant dram.

Nosing: Sherry Raisin Strawberry Dark Chocolate Ginger Leather
Orange is present, and is especially noticeable when compared side-by-side with The Macallan (12-year, an experiment I highly recommend)

Taste: powerful
Sherry Oak Chili Blackberry

Finish: Hazelnut Sherry Black Currant

Comment: The deep, dark color of The GlenDronach 18-year old expression plays it's part well in projecting a first impression of quality.

There is a refreshing lack of sugar sweetness, or even honey (though I am fan of honey), in this whisky. There is absolutely a sweet character, but it manifests almost entirely as fruit influences.

I find that many sherried whiskies disappoint on the palate even if sensational on the nose. Not so with The GlenDronach 18-year old. It fires on all cylinders from first sniff to the tail end of it's lengthy finish.

Nosing: Sherry Oak Dark Chocolate Barley Cherry

Taste: Sherry Cinnamon Sweet Caramel

Finish: Long and tasty

Comment: I'm a huge fan of Macallan 18. That being said, this is definitely a very close second. For the price you just can't beat this! Excellent job Glendronach!!

Nosing: Sherry, dark fruits, caramelized sugars. Sweet but not overpoweringly so. Very round and lushPlumSherry Raisin Sweet

Taste: Thick and coating, sherry dominate, with chocolate and a touch of oak. Very spicy and refreshing.

Finish: Long beautiful mellow finish, sherry and oak, chocolate notes come out heavily, more raisins/dark fruits, very nice finish. Makes me think it should be snowing outside while I sip by the fireplace.... one of the best finishes I have ever experienced.

Comment: Wow..... I am a newbie to scotch, but this seems like a fantastic dram! Guess I need to buy a few more bottles of this :D.
