Pedro Ximénez cask maturation holds a certain magic that is hard to pin down, and combined with some fine Oloroso butts you get a true sherry monster of a Single Malt! On the nose, there is a nice interplay of intense sweetness and fruity acidity with pears, melons and hints of eucalyptus. After a rich brown sugar arrival, the taste gets more aromatic and slightly dry, featuring a pleasant oak complexity. The finish of GlenDronach 12 is lasting, delicate and chocolaty bitter. This malt is a keeper of consistently good quality and a better value than Macallan.

Starts promising, but shows multiple flaws/problems.
Initially musty, with brown sugar notes and Cognac-like perfume. With water, more vanilla, raisin, but also strong cardboard note.
On the palate, sweet, round and rich caramel flavor.
Very short finish due to excessive use of caramel coloring.

This is classic sherried dram. Not very different from Glenfarclas similar ages. Same profile I would say, same spicy character to it. PX not to prominent.

Nosing: Peach Sherry Vanilla Blackberry

Taste: Sherry Orange Honey

Finish: Almonds Oak Ginger Plum

Comment: There is a great deal of complexity in this whisky - but only across a range of fruit influences, rather than crossing into bitter or savory territory. The Oloroso sherry is more prominent in this whisky than are the Pedro Ximenez casks. There are some hints of spice, but they come and go quickly. Even the presence of oak is merely a soft edge marking the threshold between 'Taste' and 'Finish'.

The GlenDronach 12-year old is as-expected in a very good way. It distinguishes itself from other 12-year old standards, and fits well in The GlenDronach's range.

Color: deep amber
Nose: Sherry, honey, raisins, cloves, advocaat
Palate: sweet, slightly winey, orange zest, prunes, malted barley
It tastes a little bit like a semi-sweet Sherry with coffee liqueur. Very tasty
Finish: egg liqueur, matchbox, stewed apples, sweet-beery bitterness
Natural color, non-chill filtered, delicious... what more would we want?
Price I paid: 34€

Farbe: tiefes Bernstein
Lecker. Was soll man noch möchten?
