Glen Elgin 23 Years - 1991 Marsala Finish (W&M)

Like other classic Speyside distilleries before it, Glen Elgin receives the “Marsala treatment” too... but with moderation. In this case, we are speaking of dry Marsala, which is more akin to Oloroso sherry and doesn’t turn the whisky into a candied fruit and dried plums feast (which we wanted to avoid, since it’s a subtle and fragrant malt). The result is fragrant and appetizing, a very subtle and sunny combination of wonderful aromas: candied oranges, fresh apricots, chamomile, hay and flowers, with a touch of chestnut honey and a hint of anise. In the end it gets drier and nuttier, more intense and particularly lively: a good match with aged cheese, although it’s also great as an afterdinner malt.
