I had great hopes for this since the 'Laddie 15Y 2nd Edition had been a formative experience as well as a long-time favorite.

This 16Y showed a much deeper, malt-driven profile almost overshadowing the Sauternes qualities. However, the bitter orange jam, apricot and other "noble rot" characteristics are still apparent on the nose, on top of rum-soaked raisins and other Bourbon-notes.
A slight sweetness remains on the front-palate, as well, but the palate is greatly driven by a malty structure and Bourbon-cask tannins. (Great concentration and length, nonetheless.)

Given the price, design and rarity, this clearly is a collector's item. The 15Y 2nd Edition offered much more freshness, Sauternes character, focus and refinement at less than half the price.
