      Heaven in a glass.... Sublime

Classic example of a modern "cask finish overcoat" Scotch, but well done.

The Bruichladdich character asserts itself over time and dominates after 10-15 minutes in the glass. Dried citrus, earthy barley and a musty hint of smoke. Likely aged in tired Bourbon barrels.

Before that, there is an onslaught of candied, sweet cask aromas, most prominently yellow peach, apricot, honey, toffee and a faint, acetic red fruit note. Obviously, Tawny Port, Madeira and potentially Sauternes casks were involved - however, no indication of red wine casks (other than Port).

On the palate, the "overcoat" makes for a massive, syrupy sweetness at the front and middle of the palate, but the back and finish carry a nervy, chile and ginger higher alcohol punch. Sour barrel-notes fade quickly and give way to some astringency and big sweetness. (Any bitterness is masked by the sweetness.)

An interesting exercise and novelty dram, if it weren't for the price. The 16 "Cuvee F" tastes better at half the price.
