Benriach 10 Years Curiositas

The heavily peated Benriach Curiositas shows a thick cloud of smoke. After the smoke is gone you find some smoothness and sweetness that is being replaced by spices. The finish comes with a bit of peat smoke again and a slight bitterness.

Nosing: Cake there is this cookie like sweetness to the nose. Like fresh baked goods. Peat Smoke but not a ton.Barley if there is a smokiness, it is nothing at all like the Islay's. Earthy, Herbs

Taste: Peat Smoke Herbs Floral Barley Nuts Spices Herbs this is like the definition of an "earthy" malt.

Finish: Peat Smoke Herbs quite quick for a smoky one.

Comment: This is medium peated, and a different kind of peatiness than the Islay's...it's definitely a weird one. I am not a "peat freak" but do enjoy the Islay's from time to time. But I'm not sure this one does it for me. Think I'll stick to Laphroaig. But if you are a peat freak this may be worth a sip as a change of pace from the heavy iodine profile of the Islays. I do enjoy Benriach, but not sure this is for me.
