Balvenie 12 Years Single Barrel First Fill
This single-barrel bottling from Balvenie emphasizes the influence of the barrel on the taste of a whisky. Oak barrels are natural products and each one is different. This gives each whisky a different taste. For this bottling, Balvenies Malt Master selected only barrels with a sweet vanilla and oak character. Finish:

Comment: The Balvenie 12-year old Single Barrel offering demands patience. Sour citrus and barley sugar dominate at first blush. But time, and just a few drops (literally) of water, eventually provide a wonderfully rewarding complexity. Herbal influences and some unique fruit combinations launch this initially subtle dram into rarified air.
On the palate, The Balvenie 12-year old Single Barrel pulls off a seamless transition from its impressive scent profile. Again an initial simplicity - this time oak bitterness - gives way to pleasant sweet & sour fruit tones in perfect balance with one another.
This whisky's finish is just as dramatic as its nose and taste would suggest. Bitterness and fruit sweetness swirl around one another throughout a satisfyingly lingering experience. Five well-earned stars for this quality single malt.

Lots of honey
Taste:
Very complex with vanilla
Finish:
Sweet
Comment:
Not as good as the 15 but pretty close

Taste: Fresh fruit followed by bitterness into the finish
Finish: Smooth with lingering vanilla.
Comment: A quality single malt with an extremely pleasant aroma and smooth finish. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the taste, as I prefer sherry cask maturation. If you are a fan of ex-bourbon cask maturation, this is a must have. I recommend adding a half teaspoon of water for optimal flavor.
