Ballantine's Finest is a young, low-priced Blended Scotch Whisky that has a reasonable quality and is certainly drinkable on its own. One of the lead malts in this blend is Auchentoshan, giving Ballantine's a light, sweet and floral character. The nose is grainy with nuts, honey and maple syrup. Although it tastes slightly rough and immature, there is a pleasant burned sugar sweetness with a decent amount of sherry influence. The finish is quick, vague and definitely lacking intrinsic quality. Not a spectacular but acceptable blend that works well as a mixer.

Nosing: Light. Sweet honey, cereals with just a whiff of peat.

Taste: balanced. Sweet cereals with caramel and fudge notes.

Finish: Short with a touch of wood.

Comment: Clean and tidy whisky with no distinct characteristics. Although notorious by reputation, good value for money. Entry point whisky only.
