Ardbeg 10 Years TEN
Ardbeg TEN stands for a very intense, peated Whisky that you can enjoy regularly. Its taste is full and intense like the Isle of Islay itself. While tasting you always have this smoky note lingering over everything. A very nice non chill filtered whisky indeed.

Taste: Peat Smoke, Sugar, Spices

Finish: Peat Smoke, Sugar, Malts, Bonfire

Comment: Nosing brings a very vibrant peat smoke and hints of spices to the nose, and it is well balanced when tasting, spreading more on the sweetened parts of the tongue. Finish comes strong with Bonfire intensity and smokey aromas. An absolute for a Holiday season!

Taste: Balanced oak, more citrusy sweet than vanilla, but both seem present. Overripe citrus, honey ham later. This dram smells much more aggressive than it tastes to me. Very balanced and while I would not call it smooth, it is refined. Much more going on in here than my favorite Islay, but that is good. This is a serious whisky.

Finish: Long finish, starts with campfire ashes, then sweetness, the citrus actually starts bright and tart, and mellows as if a lemon is over-ripening in your mouth! Amazing. vanilla notes, very slight wood/oak, and smoked meats/ham. Much fuller feeling on the finish then while drinking.

Comment: I am a die hard laphroaig fan, with that out of the way, this is a VERY different Islay. Very aggressive on the nose, noticeably lighter on the palate with tons of complexity. The smoke on this one smells overpowering, but is actually quite reserved, I wish I could rate this a 4.5 because I think 4 stars is underrates for this whisky. If you like peat, buy this.
