Amrut Single Malt

This is one of the standard bottling of the famous Indian Whisky Amrut single malt whisky.
Amrut whiskey has its roots immediately after the end of English colonial rule in 1948, when Indians began to distill their own whiskey. Indian mythology tells of gods and demons who mixed the ocean in prehistoric times with the help of the mountains. Suddenly, a golden pot sprang from the water, containing the elixir of life. This they called Amrut.

Nosing: Vanilla Spices Sweet Zitrus Banana
Sweet vanilla, mixed spices. A dark caramel note which I associate with dark treacle. Mixed citrus peel and a hint of fresh banana. The nose clearly signals it as a fairly young whisky, but everything is well integrated.

Taste: Sweet Vanilla Fruit
Sweet arrival. Lots of vanilla and fruitiness. Slightly creamy texture.

Finish: Zitrus Spices Floral Oak
Medium length. Citrus notes return, ends quite dry. Theres a strange floral note right at the start of the finish it's hard to put a finger on but it sort of reminds me of rosewater.

Comment:
I'd never tried amrut before despite being aware of it for a long time. I thought I'd give the general release a go as it isn't especially pricey. It's a perfectly decent release, but I think there are better options out there at the same price point. There are a couple of interesting points to it, the nose is decent, and the floral note in the finish is fun, but overall it isn't my favourite style of whisky. I would be interested in seeing what a longer maturation would do for it, but I understand that those versions are prohibitively expensive due to the hot climate where the distillery is which is unfortunate.
