Macallan 12 Years Double Cask

The Double Cask fully matured in Sherry Casks. Exclusively for Macallan, American oak casks were filled with Sherry and were used for the maturing of the Whisky. Additionally to the American oak casks, also classic Sherry casks made out of European oak were used. For a long time, Double Cask was only available in Asia. Today, this Whisky is part of the regular assortment of Macallan, but in scarce quantities.

Nosing: Honey Caramel Orange Sherry

Taste: Ginger Pepper Walnut Almonds Oak Sweet

Finish: Moderate

Comment: Sweet, spicy & citric. An outstanding Speyside with tell tale Macallan undertones, complexity and smoothness. Like digging deep into a trifle with layers of vanilla sponge cake soaked in spiced orange preserve seperated by thin layers of sherry and butterscotch all topped with with an icing of crushed nuts and marzipan. A very easy drinking dram!

Nosing: Sweet oak. Vanilla. Figs. Raisins. Dates. Sugar-coated cereal.

Taste: Vanilla. Malt. White Chocolate. Small spice kick. Nutmeg.

Finish: Bitter oak that is a little offputting. Faint vanilla extract in the background.

Comment: Bottom shelf Macallan. Not worth the price. Glengoyne 10Y offers a similar, but better malt for a much cheaper price.
