All tasting notes
Vanilla with a hint of ginger, dried fruits, sherry sweetness and wood smoke
Taste:
Deliciously smooth, rich dried fruits and sherry balanced with wood smoke and spice
Finish:
Sweet toffee and dried fruits, with wood smoke and spice
RATING: 3.7/5.0 ≙ 85 pts
Heavy sherry nose. Some vanilla sweetness and lots of mixed dry fruits. It has this weird background note that falls somewhere between leather and tobacco.
Taste:
Surprisingly dry arrival, balanced sweetness develops (underlying dark caramel flavour). The oakiness is at the forefront throughout and brings a light spiciness - nutmeg?
Finish:
Oaky but not overly dry. Medium to long in length. Mixed dried fruits throughout.
Comment:
This is a very heavily sherried offering. You can tell its been in active casks for a while, the oakiness on the palate and finish is about as high as I would like it to be. The nose is good all round, and the palate if full bodied despite the 40%abv. I can see why they didn't bottle it any stronger than this, the oak would have probably gotten out of control. I reckon its really pretty solid, but to my mind its overpriced when there are so many good sherried offerings out there.
