Laphroaig PX Cask (new Design)
In May 2013 Laphroaig gave its bottlings a new design. Since then, packages and labels were released in a new modern Look. This is the new edition of the PX, which is only distributed by Travel Retail since 2012. The PX is a special variation of a Triple Wood Whisky. Matured for several years in first filled ex-bourbon casks, the maturing continues in Quarter Casks for several months and finishes it in former Pedro Ximenez casks.

Comment:
A classic example of a "heavy Sherry overcoat", the rich fruity aromas of PX Sherry are very attractive at first encounter. Unfortunately, they subdue the Laphroaig house style considerably, greatly reducing the mineral peat quality. Moreover, the two qualities remain separate. Whereas the Sherry intrigue fades quickly, the peat never truly surfaces, but remains "chalky". The considerably pungent alcohol esters lift the volatile fruit aromas, but do not diminish with water.
Accordingly, the palate is dominated by an uncharacteristic alcohol harshness alongside a volatile, fruity acetate quality. Instead of showcasing the best of two worlds, the elements appear to cancel each other out.

Comment: really interesting with long finish, inductive to analyze on each stage
