Tasting notes of TheGreatMothra:

02. May 2016
Nosing:
There's an initial hit of peat smoke (not overly antiseptic) with lemon juice, vanilla and black pepper developing after you let it sit for a few minutes. There's a seaweed/maritime savoury note also.
Taste:
Sweet, peaty arrival with vanilla sweetness and black pepper. The peat is medium strength and not as overpowering as a lot of the more popular Islay offerings.
Finish:
Medium/long with lingering smoke and black pepper/spice.
Comment:
Worth adding a few drops of water, but won't take too much.
Compared to a lot of peated Islay malts this is much more up my street. The peat is restrained but still very much at the forefront and doesn't overpower the other aspects of the flavour. It might be a little sweet for my tastes, but well worth trying at the asking price.

All tasting notes
If you are a peat head and want to widen your horizon beyond Islay, this Single Malt is waiting to be discovered! At first glimpse, Ledaig 10 (peated Tobermory) is very reminiscent of Islay malts - but it's less sweet and distinctly different. A complex bouquet of smoked ham, sea salt, citrus fruits and both floral and savory notes lingers below intense, mineral peatiness. The arrival is strong, fresh and rather dry, followed by burned licorice, aniseed and loads of white pepper. Distant maritime notes with a touch of mint crown the substantial finish. A first-class malt!
