XOP Platinum Port Ellen and Big Peat Platinum Edition presented
Douglas Laing releases two special bottlings on the occasion of the company's 70th anniversary
Two very special bottlings will conclude a very special Douglas-Laing-year: The family-owned company that celebrated its 70th anniversary with various special editions and a grand gala dinner now presents a XOP Platinum Port Ellen 1982 Vintage Single Cask and the Big Peat Platinum Edition 26 as highlights of this year. How many bottles will arrive on our European markets was not announced, but the chance to get the hand on one of the bottles is much bigger regarding the Big Peat Platinum.
XOP Platinum Port Ellen 1982 Vintage Single Cask
Worldwide, the XOP Platinum Port Ellen 1982 Vintage Single Cask is limited to only 273 bottles of single malt from a refill Sherry Butt. After 35 years of maturation, the Port Ellen whisky still presents 54.5% ABV. It was bottled uncolored and unchill-filtered. Each bottle was personally signed by Fred Laing and his daughter Cara Laing. To describe the aromatic profile of the XOP Platinum Port Ellen, the press release states notes of salt, tea, phenol, coal and mocha.
Big Peat Platinum Edition 26 yo
The Big Peat Platinum Edition is 26 years old and was bottled at 51.5% ABV, limited to 3000 bottles. The smoky blended malt, created of single malts whiskies from Islay, is the successor of last year’s Big Peat Gold Edition, which is currently still available in some shops. It's supposed to be a Big Peat Trilogy – so what will be next, following Big Peat Gold and Big Peat Platinum?
