Wolfburn presents Langskip as a fourth member of its core range
The whisky was matured in first fill Bourbon casks and bottled in batch strength
Wolfburn is one of the younger Scottish distilleries, producing since 2013. The whisky that now was used for the first batch of Wolfburn Langskip was distilled during the first six month of production and matured for five years in first fill Bourbon casks. It is the first five year old single malt whisky that has been released by Wolfburn. The Langskip is named after the viking’s longships that in former times were often seen at the north coast of Scotland. Wolfburn Langskip will be released in september.
Like all other Wolfburn Single Malt Whiskys the Langskip is bottled un-chill filtered and uncoloured. The alcocolic strength is 58% ABV which is batch strength. The Langskip won’t stay a onetime bottling but will join the Northland, Aurora und Morven Single Malts and be part of the Wolfburn core range.
Official tasting notes of Wolfburn Langskip
Aromas of fruit blossom meld with dried apples and light oak. Flavours burst onto the palate, rich and sweet, including maple syrup, dark chocolate, almonds and fruit cake. The finish lingers nicely – hints of vanilla gently fade away with a warming trace of caramel at the end.
A short overview of the Wolfburn range
This is the heart of the Wolfburn range. The Northland is the successor of the First Genereal Release and is matured in quarter casks that before hosted peated Islay whisky. Therefor it shows gentle smoky aromas. 46% ABV.
Aurora sets an aromatic counterpart to the Northland. It is batched from Bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks and is free from smoke. The whisky is named after the colorful celestial spectacle in the North, aurora borealis. 46% ABV.
The light smokiness of this whisky is not due to the casks it was matured in but the peating of the malt. With about 10ppm it is not heavily peated. Morven is named after a hill in Caithness where in former times peat was cut for the whisky production of 19th centuries Wolfburn Distillery. 46% ABV.
Not peated and matured in First Fill Bourbon Barrels. It is five years old and different from the other Wolfburn core products it is not bottled with 46% ABV but with batch strength. Here it means 58% ABV.
