Whisky.de Malt Horst Lüning 10 Years launched

The dream of an own whisky fulfilled

It is that time before Christmas again when everybody writes down their Christmas wishes. For years and years, “My own Scotch whisky” was at the top of Horst Lüning's wish list. The "Master Taster" of Whisky.de and Whisky.com, whose tasting videos have accompanied many whisky friends while discovering the world of whisky, has fulfilled his dream after 25 years: The Whisky.de Malt Horst Lüning was launched.

Ex-bourbon casks married with a small amount of ex-sherry casks

The "Horst Lüning Whisky" is an unpeated 10-year-old blended malt scotch whisky. Ex-bourbon casks and a smaller amount of ex-sherry casks were married in order to obtain a fresh, fruity malt with a slightly spicy note and a hint of oak in the finish. When choosing the casks for the Whisky.de Malt by tasting casks samples Horst Lüning was guided by his own taste and preferences. “It smells like a Speyside potpourri with a slight Highland note,” he describes the whisky.

The Whisky.de Malt 10 Years was neither chill filtered nor coloured. It was bottled at 46% ABV. The aim was to create a complex, harmonious whisky that can also score in terms of affordability. The first batch is limited to 3,000 bottles.

The proud whisky maker is on the label

A few years ago, the German cartoonist Michael Hüter portrayed Horst Lüning in a typical pose. This cartoon now adorns the label of the Whisky.de Malt. The husband of the founder of Whisky.de, Theresia Lüning, has already visited more than 200 whisky distilleries and tasted thousands of whiskies. In 2016 he was accepted into the circle of the Keeper of the Quaich, an association within the whisky industry that aims to promote the reputation, awareness and sales of Scottish whisky worldwide.

The official tasting notes for the Whisky.de Malt Horst Lüning

  • Aroma: Pleasantly full of fresh citrus notes, delicate sherry fruitiness and subtle spicy notes
  • Taste: Sweet, malty and soft with citrus and delicate sherry notes
  • Finish: Medium to long, mild with a subtle oak flavor
  • Colour: natural gold tone

If you prefer a more powerful sherry cask influence on the aroma, we recommend the other blended malt bottled by Whisky.de, which was released a week earlier, the Highland Cattle. When choosing the casks for that malt, the focus was on sherry casks.
