Whisky Bible 2020: Jim Murray’s three favorites are all from Kentucky
1792 Full Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon is this year's Whisky of the Year
Jim Murray's new favorites were announced yesterday. In his Whisky Bible 2020 he calls three cast strength Americans the world's best whiskies of the year: 1792 Full Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon at the top, followed by William Larue Weller 125.7 Proof (2018 Release) and Thomas H Handy Sazerac Rye 128.8 Proof (2018 Release ).
Many of the whiskies that are on this year's list of the best whiskies of the year are already well-known to whisky-bible-followers. For example, William Larue Weller was Whisky of the Year last year and Thomas H Handy, Sazerac Rye, repeated his third-place position of last year with this year's edition.
The Glen Grant 18 Years, last year best Scotch and even the second-best whisky of the year according to Murray, is still the best Scottish whisky this year. Ballantine's Finest is the best Blended Scotch No Age Statement (standard range) as it was last year. Best Irishman? Again, last year's Redbrest 12 Years Cask Strength is the Irish number one.
Winner in the category European Whisky of the Year (Multiple) is the Danish The Whiskey No.9 Bog Single Malt, a label of which probably the least our whisky friends around have previously heard before. Different to the European "Single" winner: A Madeira single cask from Penderyn was chosen by Jim Murray. It is the barrel no. M75-32, a bottling especially for the German market.
A detailed list of the Whiskies of the Year 2020 was published by colleagues from The Whisky Exchange here in a blog article as soon as the results were presented.
