Theatre of Drams: New Whisky Festival on Islay
One week of tastings, lectures and distillery tours
From 23 to 25 October 2017 the Theatre of Drams will be held on Islay. The new whisky festival is titled “Whisky Symposium” and wants to enlighten and impart many aspects of whisky production. In cooperation with distilleries and other companies and institutions on Islay Theatre of Drams offers tastings, lectures, distillery tours, peat cutting, talks, whisky dinners and other events that are presented in details on the festival homepage.
Theatre of Drams imparts comprehensive knowledge of whisky production
During the five days of the symposium the events follow the process of whisky making:
- Monday – Malting, Germination, Kilning
- Tuesday – Barley, Mashing, Yeast, Fermentation
- Wednesday – Copper, Distillation, Stills, Farm Scale Whisky Production
- Thursday – Maturation, Wood, Warehousing, Coopering
- Friday – Nosing, Tasting, Customer Loyalty, Marketing & Branding
Masterclasses and Lectures will be held by famous experts of the whisky business as for example Jim McEwan (Ardnahoe), John McCheyne (Scotch Malt Whisky Society), Iain Croucher (North Start Spirits), Shauna Jennens (Dalmore), John Lamond (Author), Dr. Steve Hoad (Scottish Rural Colleges Agronomy Institute), Julie Hamilton (Glasgow Whisky Festival) and Rachel MacNeill (Wild and Magic Islay). Rachel MacNeill is also organizer and head of the Theatre of Drams.
Separate events or a whole week of whisky school bookable
Apart from the educational and the delightful events that will take place at Bowmore Hall there are also some open air offers as peat cutting, a boat trip or special walks. These can all be booked via eventbride as single events but there’s also a package offered: One week of whisky school includes lectures, tasting, dinner, events and accommodation in Bowmore for four days including breakfast.
