The Epicurean Cask Strength Edinburgh Edition: Limited bottling based on a special recipe

A competition gave birth to this limited blended malt

As the representative of the Lowlands, The Epicurean belongs to the series of Remarkable Regional Malts of independent bottler Douglas Laing & Co. The now presented The Epicurean Cask Strength Edinburgh Edition is not a cask strength version of the classic Epicurean, but was batched according to a special recipe.

At an event in Edinburgh's Bar Nauticus, bartenders and other spirits experts had the opportunity to prove their blending skills: choosing from various cask samples from Lowland whiskies, they had the chance to create their very own The Epicurean. In a blind tasting, Fred Laing, Chairman of the family business Douglas Laing & Co., then chose his favorite blend. Winner of this competition was Lindsay Blair from 56 North, a bar and gin distillery in Edinburgh.

According to her recipe, the special Edinburgh Edition of The Epicurean has now been released. The blended malt was bottled at 53.3% ABV without coloring and unchill-filtered. There are only 600 bottles available.

Cara Laing, Director of Whisky, said: “The Epicurean’s Cask Strength Edinburgh Edition celebrates our Capital City and its impressive array of bars and spirit experts. With summer just around the corner, this is perfect timing to release this fresh and zesty Lowland Malt. We’d recommend enjoying it straight-up or long with ginger ale or apple juice to further enhance those tangy, slightly spicy sweet flavours.”
