Characterized by Caroni Rum

The "distant shores" that A Rare Discovery from Distant Shores talks about can be found in Trinidad. Here, for 10 years, Caroni Rum was stored in the casks that gave the new The Balvenie its special touch. Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE said that Caroni has become something of a cult spirit appreciated by rum lovers around the world. It's rare, it's fascinating, and all because the distillery no longer exists. Caroni is absolutely unique, a heavy rum, bold, full of character and full of potential to create a very special Balvenie.

David Stewart brought the casks to Dufftown and had them filled with 20 year old The Balvenie Single Malt Whisky. It then was matured in these former Caroni casks for a further seven years.

Charles Metcalfe, The Balvenie Global Brand Ambassador, said that Caroni is a distillery that produces amazing rums and has enjoyed a high reputation for the last 20 years. The influence that the casks of this heavy Trinidadian rum had on this old Balvenie is truly remarkable. Notes of muscovado sugar and manuka honey joined the Balvenie-typical honey aroma. The A Rare Discovery From Distant Shore was bottled at 48% ABV.
