Snow White No. 7: Snow White and the apple

The new edition of Säntis Snow White was finished in Calvados casks


It's that time again: The cool seasons have begun and it's time for the next edition of the Säntis Snow White series. For five years the whisky was matured in old beer barrels, which is typical for the whiskies of the Locher AG brewery in Appenzell. These were small casks that in former times had been used for the transport of the beer to customers, the company explains in a press release.

To add an individual aromatic accent, the different editions of the Snow White series undergo a special finish every year. This year, Calvados casks from the Coeur de Lion estate owned by the well-known family firm Christian Drouin.

Not only the selected casks for the finish of the Säntis Malt Snow White change every year. The design as well, held in snow like white style, varies from edition to edition, designed by Appenzeller graphic agency Sichtwerk AG. The Snow White No.7 is limited to 2,000 bottles and was bottled at 48% ABV.

Producer’s tasting notes for the Snow White No. 7:

Nose: Already when pouring the whisky a beguiling fresh scent of fruit (fig, baked apple and candied pineapple), caramel and spices spreads. Clear casks notes play around those main aromas. Notes of malt, calvados and dried apple rings complete the first impression. An extraordinary nose that is second to none. Reminiscent of rare bottlings of Rhum Agricole with Calvados finish - light and playful.

Palate: Powerful with rich oak notes, vanilla and a hint of crème brûlée; framed by cloves, cinnamon and some pepper.

Finish: Despite the dense aromas, a balanced and delicate finish presents bright apple notes which shine through again and again.
