Scallywag 13 YO released

The blended malt was matured in Sherry butts from the Speyside

The blended malt Scallywag is a very popular complement of Douglas Laing’s portfolio since 2013. Besides the classic Scallywag with 46% ABV and a bottling in cask strength now a variation with an age statement was released: Scallywag 13 Year Old. It’s a limited edition.

The Scallywag malts are blended from whisky of Speyside Distilleries. Mortlach, Macallan and Glenrothes are mentioned by Douglas Laing, but these are not the only labels that are combined for this malt. For the Scallywag 13 YO only whisky from ex Sherry butts was used. The ruby-red coloring of the packaging reflects the dark fruity and spicy aromas of the malt. According to Douglas Laing’s philosophy the Scallywag 13 Year Old is bottled un-chillfiltered and without coloring. Like the classic Scallywag it is released with an alcohol content of 46% ABV

The official tasting notes of Scallywag 13 YO:

The nose is big, dark, distinctly sherried, raisin-y with home-baked fruitcake and molasses to the fore. Palate-wise, the sweet dark sherry opens, then detect late vanilla, nutmeg and ginger mixing with rich cereal tones: all of which combine in the still spiced finish offering a long and wagging tail-end of mocha.
