Polar Explorer – a special Port Charlotte Single Malt Whisky
Charity release with drops of glacial iceberg water
The Polar Explorer edition is a 12 year old Port Charlotte that won’t be on sale in spirit shops. But we think you might be interested in this release as well and maybe you want to take part at the charity auction to get your hands on one of the bottles.
All started when the Scottish business man Steve Thom gifted a Sherry cask with Port Charlotte Single Malt Whisky, produced at Bruichladdich Distillery in 2004, to Craig Mathieson. Now 200 numbered and hand signed bottles were filled with the whisky. It was brought to 50% ABV by using Scottish water in combination with a little amount of glacial iceberg water from Greenland. Craig Mathieson hat scratched the ice from the ice at the Srmilik Fjord when he was exploring it by kayak.
Scottish Polar explorer Craig Mathieson initiated a charity project
Those who are interested in polar exploration are very familiar with the name Craig Mathieson. He is one of only 12 man that have reached the North Pole as well as the South Pole by skis and he was the leader of the legendary Scot100 Expedition to the South Pole. Mathieson also was the first one named “Explorer in Residence” by the Royal Scottish Geographical Society for 129 years. And he is the founder of The Polar Academy. This organization helps young people at the age of 14 to 17 years to become more self-confident and develop their personal abilities by experiencing difficult journeys through the ice worlds of Greenland.
Polar Explorer whisky to be auctioned
The proceeds of an auction will help to support the work of the Polar Academy. The first 10 bottles of the Polar Explorar will be auctioned by Whisky Auctioneer. Starting on 28 July bids can be made during the next five days. After this auction the resulting 190 bottles will be offered by the Polar Academy directly in return for a donation.
If you are not one of the lucky ones to get a bottle of Polar Explorer Single Malt Whisky as a crumb of comfort you can more easily buy a bottle of Port Charlotte Scottish Barley that also offers 50% ABV, but of course wasn't kissed by glacial water.
