New annual whisky festival in the Speyside announced

Starting 2016 there will be a whisky festival in Elgin every autumn

Whisky fans know the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival that takes place every spring very well. Masterclass tastings, extraordinary distillery tours, music events, dinners, outdoor activities, whisky auctions and much more is offered annually. Many of the arrangements are booked out shortly after being published. There’s no doubt: the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival is one of the most important tourist attractions of the region. Now the organizer plans to host a whisky event in autumn, too.

Whisky Festival in Elgin

From 9th to 11th September 2016 the first whisky weekend will take place, tenderly called “dramfest” in the announcement of the homepage SpiritofSpeyside.com. Apart from whisky tastings, cocktail mixing, masterclasses and lectures local food will also be in the focus. The new whisky festival will take place in the Town Hall of Elgin, the biggest town in the Council Moray. If you wonder why the new whisky festival won’t take place in the whisky metropole of Dufftown you should remember that there is already the annual Autumn Speyside Whisky Festival in Dufftown end of September – of course led by the organizer of the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival. Maybe they want to avoid any possibility of confusion.

Aim is to attract the locals too

With the choice of Elgin as the place of event the local economy can get new support the organizer declares. Tourists’ figures that usually drop rapidly when summer season is over can get another kick this way. Benriach or Longmorn lying next to Elgin surely are happy with this location. Furthermore Elgin is a central and directly accessible hub. But not only the whisky tourist are the target group for the Elgin Festival as they are for the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival in spring. The local people are also in the focus of the organizers and with the various offers that complement the whisky program will be an enrichment for them.
