Michter's Toasted Barrel Finish Rye introduced

A rye whiskey with a finish in custom toasted barrels

From Louisville, Kentucky, we hear news about a limited bottling of a special rye whiskey: Michter's announces a US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Rye to be released in September 2020.

Michter's has always had great success with their limited whiskey releases that underwent a further aging in specially toasted barrels. Michter's Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon is probably familiar to fans of the Kentucky Distillery. Now the Michter's US*1 Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Rye was to a small amount also given this special finish.

Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson, who is responsible for the preparation and selection of the barrels, explains: "For this 2020 release, we selected rye barrels aged to peak quality and then dumped each barrel, with the contents of each single barrel being put in a second single barrel assembled from 24 month naturally seasoned and air dried wood. The second barrel was custom toasted to extract characters to create a rich and decadent rye whiskey experience."

The number of bottles Michter’s will make available of this Toasted Barrel Finish Rye is not mentioned in the actual press release. The distillery is known for its single barrel and small batch editions and the demand consistently exceeds the supply. Michter's has already started to expand some time ago: In addition to the main distillery in Shively, a suburb of Louisville, the company opened a second distillery early last year in the heart of Louisville in the historic Fort Nelson building (we reported).
