Macallan Rare Cask Black: A special member of the 1824 series

A different kind of Macallan with a smoky character

The peated Macallan Rare Cask Black is indeed an exception among all releases of the distillery situated in the Speyside. To those who are familiar with the 1824 Masters series the name “Macallan Rare Cask” is well-known. There is a Rare Cask with a red label and red box and similar to this high classed single malt the Macallan Rare Cask Black is batched from whiskies that were matured in ex Sherry casks of European and American oak. The essential difference is that the chosen casks contained peated whisky and such a smoky version of Macallan Single Malt is not regularly produced. No wonder this Macallan Rare Cask Black edition was created as a very limited one: less than 100 casks were batched.

Macallan Rare Cask Black presented in black

Matching with the smoky whisky and notes concerning the origin “from the dark, mysterious warehouses“ Macallan chose a bottle made of black glass and a black presentation box. Neither on bottle nor on the box an age statement can be found. The Macallan Rare Casks Black is part of the non age collection of the distillery. But with 48% ABV it makes a statement otherwise! This smoky Macallan was released end of 2015 only for travel release.
