Kilkerran presents Heavily Peated, Cask Strength 8 and Port Wood 15
News from the Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown
In 2004, the Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown restarted producing and starting with its first release in 2009 it took whisky fans on the way to the 12-year-old slightly smoky Kilkerran. In these days now, some new releases enter the portfolio of the distillery.
Kilkerran Heavily Peated
Meanwhile, the distillery has proved that it can also produce a different kind of whisky: Since spring there’s the "Peat in Progress" series, a heavily peated version of the Kilkerran whisky. The second batch of this Heavily Peated has currently entered the market. To 55% this single malt whisky was matured in bourbon casks, to 45% in sherry casks - just like the first batch of Kilkerran Heavily Peated. It was bottled with 60.9% ABV, no coloring and not chill-filtration.
Kilkerran 8 Years Cask Strength
Most recently, the release of a new Kilkerran Cask Strength 8 Years has been announced, following the powerful 2018 batch. This new whisky, bottled at 57.1% ABV, was fully matured in re-charred Oloroso sherry casks. The following tasting notes were published by the producer:
Nose: Waves of smoky bacon and sticky glazed ham are followed by dried fruit characteristics that give way to soft peat smoke.
Palate: Rich, fruity and spicy. Notes of ginger loaf, fresh ripe cherries and sultanas. Hints of cloves, dark chocolate and a refreshing menthol note.
Finish: A lasting finish of nostalgic buttered brown toast, espresso and ashy peat smoke. A lasting, earthy character reminiscent of the distillery’s dunnage warehousing.

Kilkerran 15 Years Port Wood
A 15-year-old Kilkerran, matured in a fresh port wine casks for 10 years, followed by another five years in refilled Bourbon Hogshead, was announced as a single cask bottling for Germany. Only 246 bottles will be available from this 51.5% ABV malt, with which the Glengyle distillery celebrates its 15th anniversary. It is one of several single casks that Kilkerran is releasing on the occasion of this anniversary. In the online shop, the product is already created.
In October, the distillery announced in social media:
