Johnnie Walker celebrates 200th anniversary with four special editions

A tribute to an incredible success story

When John Walker founded his small general store in Kilmarnock in 1820 and soon started selling and blending whisky, he could hardly have dreamed that his name now stands for one of the best-known whisky brands worldwide. To celebrate the start of this success story 200 years ago, Diageo is launching four special editions of the Johnnie Walker Blended Scotch Whisky. Three of them are new creations, one is a well-known bottling in a new design.

John Williams, director of Diageo Global Scotch, said: "John's spark, vision and entrepreneurial fire were the impetus to growing the John Walker name, our business and ultimately a new future for Scotch whisky. This year we're celebrating the steps he first took - steps that have inspired generations of our whisky makers and are at the heart of everything we do today and will do tomorrow."

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Legendary Eight
Whisky from eight distilleries that were in operation in 1820 (some of which no longer exist today) formed this blend: Oban, Blair Athol, Lagavulin, Teaninich, Brora, Cambus, Port Dundas and Carsebridge.

John Walker & Sons Celebratory Blend
A limited edition that was inspired by the 'Old Highland Whisky', the company's first commercial blend. It was introduced in the 1860s and whisky from distilleries that were in operation at that time shaped this Blend.

John Walker & Sons Bicentenary Blend
Johnnie Walker's 200-year journey around the world began in that small general store where the aroma of many exotic spices filled the air. Jim Beveridge and his team tried to trace those flavors when they selected the whiskies for this blend. All are at least 28 years old. Included are whiskies from the legendary distilleries Pittyvaich, Cambus and Port Ellen.

The release of the four Johnnie Walker anniversary editions has been announced for fall 2020: from October they will be launched, " subject to market distribution and availability”, as the actual press release informs.
