GlenWyvis Batch 2 2018 Vintage: Second release presented by the young Scottish distillery

GlenWyvis Distillery is 100% community-owned

At the end of last year, the first whisky from the GlenWyvis Distillery was released, and now Batch 2 is on the market. It is a vintage bottling from 2018, batched from First Fill Tennessee Whiskey Casks (15 casks = 60%), First Fill Oloroso Sherry Casks (5 casks = 25%) and Refill Hogsheads (3 casks = 15%). A total of only 8,000 bottles were filled for the UK and some international markets – for example in Germany.

With a press release on GlenWyvis Batch 2, the family business Kirsch Import introduced itself as the new German importer for the Scottish whisky brand. “We are very pleased to be able to establish GlenWyvis, a highly interesting and likeable brand from a small, sustainably operated Scottish distillery in Germany. Due to the outstanding quality of the whisky, we are convinced that we can inspire many whisky fans for GlenWyvis," said Christoph Kirsch, owner and managing director of Kirsch Import.

100% community owned and powered by 100% renewable energy

Founded in 2015, GlenWyvis Distillery was funded through a crowdfunding campaign. £3.8 million raised through the support of 3,600 investors, laid the foundation stone for this Dingwall distillery, which is the first in Scotland to be fully community owned. GlenWyvis is supplied exclusively with renewable energy and is not reliant on the public power grid.

The distillery uses local Concerto barley for its whisky production. A long fermentation time of 96 hours and the distillation in a 2,500 liter wash still and a 1700 liter spirit still with an "uncompromising hearts cut", as described in the press release, lay the basis for the aroma of the Highland whisky.

The 2022 release was matured in 23 barrels, which gave it a complex sweetness, luscious fruit notes and a spicy character. The whisky was bottled at 46.5% ABV without chill filtration and in natural colour.
