Glendronach Port Wood released
The classic maturation in Oloroso and PX sherry casks was supplemented by a finish in port pipes
The Glendronach whiskys are characterized by a maturation in sherry casks. Since the founder of Glendronach, James Allardice, started to use Oloroso and PX Casks, this has become the traditional style of the distillery emphasizes the latest Glendronach press release. Thus this is also the basis of the distillery's latest product, but after the maturation in sherry casks, this special release has been is given another accent by a three-year-finish in port casks from the Douro Valley in Portugal.
The limited edition Glendronach Port Wood is ten years old and was bottled at 46% ABV, neither Chill-filtered nor colored. Cask selection and marrying was done by Glendronach's Master Blender Dr. Rachel Barrie.
The official tasting notes:
Appearance: Intense cherry wood.
Nose: Breathe in delightful waves of Victoria plum, bramble and strawberry jam with top notes of cherry blossom and honeysuckle on a base of sandalwood and ginger.
Taste: Layers upon layers of rich fruits. Sip blackberry and roasted apple crumble with freshly baked gingerbread, developing into a baked orange and black cherry back-note.
Finish: Savour orange peel, sultana and cherry cake lingering into the richly fruity finish.
