Douglas Laing celebrates with launch of Scallywag 10-Year-Old

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary, the popular Speyside blended malt with an age statement is revealed

The family business established in 1948, Douglas Laing & Co, is currently in the midst of the celebrations of its 70th anniversary and is launching a limited 10-year-old blended malt Scotch whisky under the Scallywag brand, which will soon also be available in our Whisky.de online shop.

Scallywag is a small batch bottling, which is produced only with the best Speyside malts - amongst others, spirit distilled at Mortlach, Macallan and Glenrothes. It was first launched in 2013 and is inspired by the Fox Terrier of the Laing family, whose face adorns the packaging. Since then, Douglas Laing has expanded its portfolio to include Cask Strength, 13-year-old and Easter Edition. Bottled at 46% abv - neither coloured nor chill-filtered - this new expression, limited to only 4,500 bottles, is made from the finest Speyside Single Malts aged exclusively in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks. The result is a rich blended malt whisky with dark, fruity and indulgent notes of rich cocoa, stewed plums and sweet mocha.

Fox Terriers have a long tradition in the dog-loving Douglas Laing family. Counting in canine years, the new Scallywag is indeed 70 years old, and so the circle closes with Fred Douglas Laing, who founded the company in 1948. To celebrate its 70th anniversary, the independent bottler from Glasgow has already launched a limited series within the Xtra Old Particular (XOP) series at the beginning of this year, and with the Epicurean Cask Strength Glasgow a special edition of its Lowland Blended Malt, and more will follow. As usual, we will of course keep you informed.
