Christmas in sight: Big Peat Christmas Edition 2017 presented
Heavy peat smoke to fight freezing cold
The upcoming news about the next Big Peat Christmas Edition is a certain sign every year that the time of sun milk and water melons is drawing to an end. “Winter is coming” not only for fantasy but also for whisky fans and the Big Peat guy changes to Christmas modus again. On the label of the new Big Peat Christmas Edition 2017 he wears Christmassy red and fights an icy blizzard with a pinched face in front of Islay’s silhouette.
Eight single malts from Islay are married to form this very peaty blended malt and as usual it is neither chill-filtered nor colored. The Big Peat Christmas Edition 2017 is bottled at a natural strength of 54.1% ABV. The taste is described by Douglas Laing & Co as following: “Big Peat Christmas 2017 packs an appropriately big peated punch, showing all sorts of maritime qualities like ferry engine rooms, tarry ropes, rock pools, harbour walls, beached seaweed and creosoted beach huts, with a late suggestion of chewed leather.” Those are probably challenging tasting notes that will thrill Big Peat fans but leave others a little skeptical behind.
