Chivas Regal 50 years "The Icon" unveiled

Manchester United's official spirits partner marks 50 years of trophy victory with exclusive bottling

Probably only a few and then only die-hard football fans of the English Premier League will remember 29 May 1968, the day on which Manchester United won the European Cup of Champions, the predecessor of today's Champions League. The company Chivas Brothers, official spirits partner of Manchester United since August 2018, took this opportunity to launch an exclusive bottling of its popular blended Scotch whisky: the 50 year old Chivas Regal "The Icon".

Only four bottles have been created: one per goal in the 4:1 final victory against Benfica Lisbon. The precious contents are packaged in a hand-blown Dartington Crystal decanter in an elaborate hand-carved wooden package, the dark blue colour of which matches the shirt colours of the winning football team at the time. While one bottle will be put on permanent display at Strathisla distillery, the home of Chivas Regal, the second bottle will be sold at Sotheby's in November via an online auction. The third bottle will initially be displayed at the Manchester United Museum and will be offered for private sale after the 2019 season ends. Both proceeds will go to the Manchester United Foundation. The last bottle will be given as a gift to a very special fan yet to be identified, who has supported the club through every high and low.

For the blended Scotch brand Chivas Regal, age statements are not the exception, but rather the rule, as the available blends with ages of 12 years, 18 years and even 25 years prove.
