Bowmore Vintner’s Trilogy: Two of three single malts already launched

Bowmore 18 Year Old Double Matured Manzanilla und Bowmore 26 Year Old Wine Matured

Beam Suntory started a little series of special Bowmore bottlings recently. The Vintner’s Trilogy will present three limited editions: Bowmore 18 Year Old Double Matured Manzanilla, Bowmore 26 Year Old Wine Matured und Bowmore 27 Year Old. The first two ones mentioned are already available, the 27 Year Old Bowmore is to be released next year. The casks that were chosen for these bottlings were matured in the famous No 1 Vaults of the Distillery on Islay, the oldest warehouse of Scotland still in use.

Bowmore 18 Year Old Double Matured Manzanilla

The single malt shows a dark golden color and was matured in ex-Bourbon casks for 13 years and 5 other years in Manzanilla Sherry casks. The official tasting notes mention notes of molasses, salted caramel, blackcurrants, soft drupes, vanilla candies and Seville oranges. There are as well subtle notes of menthol and chamomile that merge to bitter orange and peat smoke on the palate. The Double Matured Manzanilla was bottled with 52.5% ABV.

Bowmore 26 Year Old Wine Matured

This Bowmore presents a color like dark amber. It also was matured for 13 years in ex-Bourbon casks but then maturation differs from that one of the other Vinters edition: 13 years in French ex-wine barrique casks followed. Official notes talk about “a nose of red currants jam, camphorated oil and cherry cake that merge with earthy smoke. If you decide to add a few drops of water spicy oak wood, sweet honey and topic fruits like papaya and mango will develop. The mouth filling whisky presents aromas of oak flovored wood and dark chocolate with a long finish and the Bowmore typical tropic subtle salt aroma.” This single malt is also bottled at cask strength which resulted in an alcoholic content of 48.7% ABV
