Benromach 20th Anniversary Bottling: A special bottling for a special anniversary

A single malt from the first year of production after the re-opening

A special milestone is worth a special whisky, so the guys at Benromach decided. On 23rd April 2018 the 20th anniversary of Benromach’s re-opening was celebrated and so they released the single malt “20th Anniversary Bottling”.

In 1993 independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail had bought Benromach that had been mothballed since 1983. It took five years of renovation and refurbishment until the distillery could start production again. Distilled in 1998, released in April 2018 – Scotchwhisky.com classifies this release as being 19 years old, but those few missing months won’t do any harm to the quality of the almost-20- years-old release.

For this anniversary release only whisky from the first year of the re-opened Benromach was batched. It was matured in first fill Bourbon and first fill Sherry casks in the warehouses in Forres. The release is limited to only 3.000 bottles and reflects the fruity, spicy and lightly peated style of Benromach in perfection. 400 of those bottles are available at the distillery itself, the rest is bound for international retail.
