Benriach manager Billy Walker honored as Entrepreneur of the Year 2016

The award comes only two months after the acquisition of Benriach by Brown-Forman (Jack Daniel's)

This year’s Scotland Food&Drink Excellence Awards 2016 brought Billy Walker, Managing Director auf Benriach, special honors: He was named “Entrepreneur of the Year”. With this award the committee honors special innovative and outstanding achievements of companies and persons in the food and drinks industry.

A big success for the whole Benriach team

Billy Walker received the award in Edinburgh on June 2nd in front of 800 guests of the event. He honoured his team saying: “It’s an enormous compliment and a very pleasant surprise to receive this prestigious award. I’m delighted to accept it on behalf of the extraordinary people across our four sites who have helped me build Benriach with their hard work, passion and commitment.”

Benriach, Glendronach and Glenglaussaugh consolidated

Twelve years ago Billy Walker had aquired the mothballed Benriach Distillery from Chivas Brothers together with his South African partners Geoff Bell and Wayne Kieswetter. He reactivated the whisky production there in Elgin and made Benriach an internationally high regared Label. Extending the distillery portfolio by purchasing the Glendronach Distillery in Huntly and Glenglaussaugh in Portsoy Billy Walker made the Benriach Distillery Co. a prosperous company with 165 employers in four sites including the headquarters in Edinburgh.

Big profits and big investments

95% of Benriach‘s products are bound for the export worldwide. Pre-tax profits have increased by 24% to £11.1 mio last year and Benriach published plans for £25 mio investments recently. The announcement of the acquisition of Benriach Distillery Company by Brown-Forman (Jack Daniel's) in April (we reported here) caused big attention worldwide and marked another milestone in the history of the company that started from scatch 12 years ago.
