Beam Suntory to launch Bowmore 27 Year Old Port Cask
The limited Edition completes the Vintner’s Trilogy
Friends of the Islay distillery Bowmore can look forward to a special bottling that now was announced and is to be released in July 2018: A 27 year old single malt will complete the Vintner’s Trilogy. It had been maturing in ex Bourbon casks for 13 years before it spent 14 further years in ex Port casks and then was bottled in casks strength at 48.3 % ABV.
The three single malts of the Vintner’s Trilogy not only have in common they were matured in the famous Bowmore warehouse Vaults No 1, they also all have seen a double maturation: They first spent 13 years in ex Bourbon casks before a second period in different wine casks followed.
Last year we already saw Bowmore 18 Year Old Matured Manzanilla with its 5 finishing years in Manzanilla Sherry casks starting the Vintner’s Trilogy. Bowmore 26 Year Old French Oak Barrique followed: After 13 years in ex Bourbon casks the whisky was transferred to Barrique casks for another 13 years.
The Bowmore 27 Year Old Port Cask now appears in dark mahogany color and is described in the official press release as follows: The single malt exhales notes of toffee, spices and heather with a hint of rosemary that unfold in the nose. You also can find nuances of port wine, raspberry coulis and red berries. On the tongue it develops a sweet-salty and simultaneously smoky taste, mixed with aromas of sultanas, salted caramel and sweet, leathery notes. Hints of pepper, spices and violets can be discovered. In the finish the 27 Year Old Port Cask unfolds earths notes and those of salted dated, dried spices, sweet tabaco, dried cranberries and a touch of white pepper.
