Auchentoshan Bartenderʼs Malt No. 02 launched
Beam Suntory released the second single malt specially designed by bartenders for bartenders
The successor of last year's whisky innovation Auchentoshan Bartenderʼs Malt No. 01 was developed by master blender Ron Welsh and the 12 winners of the international "New Malt Order" competition 2017. The result is a single malt Scotch whisky by bartenders for bartenders.
Talent and innovation
The production of the new Auchentoshan Bartenderʼs Malt No. 02 was the work of the 12 most talented and innovative bartenders, who were able to win their place in the "New Malt Order" collective by qualifying for the International Cocktail Competition 2017. In this competition they had to prove their skills in the areas of fermentation and whisky cocktails in front of an expert jury. Among the winners were Christian Herberholz (Das schwarze Schaf in Bamberg) and Sascha Geiersberg (Luna Lounge in Neuruppin), two German mixologists. In September 2017, the twelve were invited to Auchentoshan for a week where Ron Welsh inaugurated the secrets of the Lowland whisky production.
All for one
In order to get to know the personality and taste preferences of each individual bartender, everyone first filled out a questionnaire created especially for this purpose. On the basis of the results, the experienced master blender allocated each individual participant his own personal cask, which each tasted for himself. Finally, they all together created the Auchentoshan Bartenderʼs Malt No. 02 under the guidance of Ron Welsh. The result is a single malt without age statement consisting of a four-year-old Bourbon barrel matured malt up to a 50-year-old whisky from a Hogshead.
Whisky in cocktails
With its triple distillation process, Auchentoshan single malt can be integrated unusually well into cocktails. That's why Bartenderʼs Malt is the perfect whisky for cocktails: a product from bartenders who have perfectly implemented the demands of their trade. Its predecessor – Bartender's Malt No. 1 – was already highly praised by experts and consumers worldwide. "These talented bartenders used their shared passion to create a powerful single malt with soft flavours ranging from orange wine and saffron to grenadine and cinnamon with a hint of pepper," the master blender proudly said. Due to the great success in the bar scene, this year's competition is already in its third round.
