Ardbeg Traigh Bhan 19 Years Batch 2 presented

The next edition of the limited smoky Islay whisky will be available in September 2020

When the first Ardbeg Traigh Bhan 19 years was released last autumn, further batches were already announced (we reported). This 19-year-old, matured in bourbon and Olosoros sherry casks, is announced to enrich the portfolio of the Islay distillery as a permanent bottling and will be available regularly in small batches. Now the time has come: The Ardbeg Traigh Bhan 19 years edition 2020 has been announced. It will be available at the distillery itself from September 7th, and in specialist shops from September 14th.

This second batch of Ardbeg Traigh Bhan, named after a beach with “singing sand” on Islay, was also bottled at 46.2% ABV without chill-filtration. "A harmony of complexity and class - very exciting to compare it with the first edition presented last year," says Dr. Bill Lumsden, Director of Distilling, Whiskey Creation & Whiskey Stocks at Ardbeg.

Tasting notes for the Ardbeg Traigh Bhan 19 Years Batch 2

The color: pale gold

On the nose: gentle aromas of sweet wood smoke and crème fraîche tart with strong notes of spicy fennel, celery and roasted tea leaves. This is followed by seductive notes of charcoal and slightly burnt toast. A splash of water sets a breath of fresh sea spray free, followed by eucalyptus oil and pine. Finally, this irresistible nose ends up with a distinctive keynote of saddle soap and leather.

On the palate: an intensely salty mouthfeel gives way to calming notes, followed by salted peanut brittle, smoked pineapple and lime juice. Notes of anise wash over the palate before rich fudge, birch tar and peat smoke emerge.

In the finish: Hearty and smoky notes meet in a strong, intense and long-lasting finish
