Ardbeg Arrrrrrrdbeg! presented

A whisky in honour of long-time distillery manager Mickey Heads

Moet Hennessy revealed the secret and introduced the awaited Ardbeg Whisky, which is released in honour of Mickey Heads. The long-time distillery manager of Ardbeg handed over the management of the Islay distillery to Colin Gordon in October (we reported). The limited committee bottling Ardbeg Arrrrrrrdbeg! is a tribute to Mickey Heads, who will remain visible for the fans of the peated malt as Chairman of the Ardbeg Committee.

The Ardbeg Arrrrrrrdbeg! will be available exclusively for committee members in the Ardbeg shop on February 9, 2020 at an RRP of 150 Euros. The single malt whisky was completely matured in former rye whiskey casks, which is a novelty for Ardbeg, and bottled at 51.8% ABV. The bottle label shows Mickey Heads as a fearless captain. The illustration is a work by Brazilian artist and graphic designer Butcher Billy.

An ultimate pleasure

Dr. Bill Lumsden, Director of Whisky Creation at Ardbeg, said working with Mickey was a pleasure for him. They hope that this bottling will have a special place in Mickey‘s collection, because he has accompanied many significant Ardbegs over the years, but this release at the end of his era is something very special: Former rye whiskey casks only matured Arrrrrrrdbeg!, a novelty fort he distillery.

Mickey Heads said it was an ultimate pleasure to have run the greatest distillery in the world for the past 13 years. He had the best team he could wish for and is proud to have created so many wonderful Ardbeg bottlings together with them. It’s a special honor for him to have an own filling with his own picture on the bottle as a farewell. In futute he will fish a lot, but will continue to stop by the distillery frequently as Chairman of the Ardbeg Committee.

Tasting notes for the Ardbeg Arrrrrrrdbeg!

Colour: straw colour

On the nose: aromas of smoked banana and pears drift to some rye bread, sweet vanilla toffee and a gentle anise breeze. A splash of water opens up notes of lemon and lime, while a fresh note of sorbet and sweet pastries comes to the fore.

On the palate: lots of flavours. A blunderbuss ignites fruity aromas such as melons and kiwis. An armada of anise appears, accompanied by smoked toffee and a hint of sweet sourdough rolls.

Finish: A long finish leaves a salty spray with Brazil nuts and gentle smoke aromas that linger on the palate for a long time.
