The 2020 Year Review

What a year

After only two months into 2020, life changed for most of us due to the global pandemic. For Whisky.com, the pandemic also brought some changes: the majority of our employees worked from home for most of the year. As with many other companies, families and institutions, flexibility is required. Fortunately for us and you, as an online company, we were allowed to do our thing without restriction throughout the year. In the German market sales even went up considerably, so we did not have to worry – lucky us!

Nevertheless, the exceptional situation had one downer: The planned Whisky.com distillery tours in Scotland had to be cancelled. Instead, there was a small tour through Switzerland, when the pandemic allowed it. We visited Langatun, Locher (Säntis Malt) as well as Seven Seals and shot tour videos with informative interviews for you. But postponed is not cancelled: We will make up for the originally planned tours in Scotland as soon as the situation allows it.

We strive to organize one of our exciting regular Live Tastings for you each month. Towards the end of the year, we dedicated five Tastings to five Scotch Whisky regions (Highlands, Lowlands, Islands, Islay and Speyside). We were able to look at each region in detail, which was really interesting. In addition, we - of course - had our yearly Live Tastings for Beginners and Advanced with Malts from Glendronach, Talisker, Bushmills and Octomore. Our next Live Tasting will take place on Friday, 29th January 2021 with our Whisky Vision TV Cask and St. Kilian.

This also brings us to the next milestone in our annual review: Our own Whisky cask has turned three years old! Our cask was filled with the new make spirit of St. Kilian on 25th September 2017. Last year, we had a crack in the cask and needed to have it repaired, which cost us 81 days of ageing. Thus, on 15th December 2020, the time had finally come: the spirit in the cask may now call itself 'Whisky'!

Thank you for following our little Whisky.com rewind with our ups and downs in 2020. Now we are looking forward to a healthy, good year 2021 with you! Whatever resolution you have made, we hope we may continue to accompany you. The Luening family and the Whisky.com team wish you a Happy New Year!
