Starward named Most Awarded Distillery of the Year

The Australian distillery has won 12 Double Gold and 3 Gold Medals at the 2022 San Francisco World Spirits Competition

This year, the Australian Starward Single Malt Whisky prevailed against almost 5,000 renowned spirits worldwide at the renowned San Francisco World Spirits Competition. It was the first Australian distillery to receive the Most Awarded Distillery of the Year award. Starward awarded this title because they were awarded the highest number of top placings by a single distillery at the spirits competition in April 2022 with twelve Double Gold and three Gold Medals.

A dream comes true

Starward Founder David Vitale said: "To become the first Australian whisky to be named the Most Awarded Distillery of the Year at the world's most competitive spirits competition is a dream come true. Fifteen years ago we had an idea to bring an approachable and delicious Melbourne whisky to life and to receive this recognition confirms what we've always known, that Australia is home to some of the finest whisky and spirits in the world. This achievement would not be possible without the passion, commitment and shared dream of our team. With this win, we are excited to take Starward to new horizons both here and abroad."

In 2007, David Vitale started his whisky project in an old Melbourne aircraft hangar. Meanwhile the distillery is based in Port Melbourne. Starward attaches great importance to the use of local ingredients and matures the single malt to a high degree in Australian wine casks.

A wide range of Starward Whisky on the European market

In addition to Australia, the USA and the UK, the focus of Starward Single Malt Whisky is also on selective markets around Asia and Europe, for example the German market. Jannik Hellweg, Starward Head of Brand Management at Kirsch Import, says: "We are proud to be the partner of the Starward brand in Germany. In accordance with her motto "Whisky done different", they demonstrate a flair for versatile and highly exciting products, which - in our opinion - rightly received the award in San Francisco. It's great to see the Australians progressing and being a part of their journey."
