Lagavulin 16 Years

The classic Lagavulin is kilned with a high smoke content in the malt. The stills are pear-shaped, so that all flavors can be passed on to the condensers during distillation. The Single Malt then matures in Bourbon and Sherry casks to completion.

Nosing: Peat Smoke Sherry Green Apple Anise - Also a smell between lemon and orange hard candy.

Taste: Peat Smoke Dried Fruit Lemon Sweet

Finish: Peat Smoke Salt Spices Oak

Comment: Probably the most interesting whisky I've had so far. You can really spend some time with this one. After having Laphroaig and Ardbeg this was a nice change to pace. This is a bit more gentle and subtle compared to those.

Nosing: Strong aromas predominantly smoke, peat smoke

Taste: Bonfire!

Finish: Powerful yet smooth and long lasting

Comment: You either love it or hate it, no fence sitting here. When you have it for the first time, you must at least reserve judgement until after the 3rd glass, at that point you hopefully become life long friends.

08. Jul 2016
Nosing:
Mellow sweet smoke dominates. Behind there are ash, iodine, ripe oranges, ginger, vanilla, butterscotch and honey. Hints of sea. Very complex
Taste: Smoke, sweet fruits, orangejuice and ash. Hints of chocolate and salt. Slightly oily and spicy. No bitterness at all.

Finish: Long and sweet with smoke, ash and a bit salty

Comment: a wonderful dram. The smoke is like bonfire and not as medicinal like Laphroaig and Ardbeg. Very mellow smoke and all the smells and flavors are well balanced in symbios
