Balvenie 12 Years Double Wood
This Balvenie was matured in old sherry and bourbon casks. It makes this scotch interesting but also mild. The orange flavour and a deep sweetness make it a true gem among malt whiskies.

Immediate sherry hit. Orange blossom, nuts and cinnamon.
Taste:

Medium sweet arrival. Sherry wood and sweet spices. More of that citrussy component.
Finish:

Medium length and follows on the flavour profile of the palate.
Comment:
I came back to this whisky after a long break from trying it. I seem to remember that it didn't impress me much at the time. I get the feeling however that it has changed for the better over time. The sherry influence on this is significantly stronger than I remember. The closest thing I can equate it to is Bunnahabhain 12. It has that same orange influence from the sherry in the nose and palate. The finish isn't the most interesting, but it fits well and doesn't feel out of place. I'd say this is a really solid release, an excellent example of what can be achieved with multi cask maturation.

Finish:

Comment: Deep amber liquid gold in colour, thick legs that take time to run back to the whisky.
Very pleasant nose with distinct Sherry and Oak throughout, mid tones of treacle and a base of lemon and orange.
Taste is definite sherry, coming from the Doublewood in the name, matured for 12 years, first in Whisky Oak casks and then transferred to European Oak Sherry casks.
Finish is warm peppery, with vanilla and oak sweetness and a treacle undertone.
Overall a very nice drink, 8 1/2 out of 10 - currently on offer in Tesco, so worth buying if you fancy it!

Finish:
Long lingering with oak note.

Comment:
This one has a little bit dry taste than expected for me. This drum has a typical character that changes its palate with original oak taste into the orange taste over time. I have to admit Balvenie 12 is very rich whisky compared with other 12 yo.
