I opened a bottle of Benrinnes 15 Flora & Fauna a couple of days ago, and it has a really off smell about it. Sort of chemically, like that additive the gas company adds to natural gas so that you can smell leaks. It seems to disipate somewhat if I leave it to stand in the glass for long enough. Though the finish is coming across really dry and quite bitter as well.
Is there any chance I've just been unlucky with a bad bottle here? Anyone have experience with this one?
I've given it a while with the cork out for a couple of days and it seems to have calmed down significantly. I don't think I've ever come across a non peated malt which I've had to leave to breathe like that before. Very weird.
